Finite gain lp stabilization requires analog control

چکیده

A causal feedback map, taking sequences of measurements and producing sequences of controls, is denoted as finite set if, within any finite time horizon, its range is in a finite set. Bit-rate constrained or digital control are particular cases of finite-set feedback. In this paper, we show that the finite gain (FG) lp stabilization, with 1 p ∞, of a discrete-time, linear and time-invariant unstable plant is impossible by finite-set feedback. In addition, we show that, under finite-set feedback, weaker (local) versions of FG lp stability are also impossible. These facts are not obvious, since recent results have shown that input to state stabilization is viable by bit-rate constrained control. In view of such existing work, this paper leads to two conclusions: (1) even when input to state stability is attainable by finite-set feedback, small changes in the amplitude of the external excitation may cause, in relative terms, a large increase in the amplitude of the state (2) FG lp stabilization requires logarithmic precision around zero. Since our conclusions hold with no assumption on the feedback structure, they cannot be derived from existing results. We adopt an information theoretic viewpoint, which also brings new insights into the problem of stabilization. © 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

$L_p$-stabilization of integrator chains subject to input saturation using Lyapunov-based homogeneous design

Consider the n-th integrator ẋ = Jnx+σ(u)en, where x ∈ Rn, u ∈ R, Jn is the nth Jordan block and en = (0 · · ·0 1)T ∈ Rn. We provide easily implementable state feedback laws u = k(x) which not only render the closed-loop system globally asymptotically stable but also are finite-gain Lp-stabilizing with arbitrarily small gain, as in [25]. These Lp-stabilizing state feedbacks are built from homog...

Finite gain lp stabilization of discrete-time LinearSystems subject to actuator Saturation: The case of p=1

It has been established by Bao, Lin and Sontag (2000) that, for neutrally stable discrete-time linear systems subject to actuator saturation, finite gain lp stabilization can be achieved by linear output feedback, for every p ∈ (1,∞] except p = 1. An explicit construction of the corresponding feedback laws was given. The feedback laws constructed also resulted in a closed-loop system that is gl...

Finite Gain Stabilization of Discrete - Time Linear SystemsSubject to Actuator

It is shown that, for neutrally stable discrete-time linear systems subject to actuator saturation, nite gain lp stabilization can be achieved by linear output feedback, for all p 2 (1; 1]. An explicit construction of the corresponding feedback laws is given. The feedback laws constructed also result in a closed-loop system that is globally asymptotically stable, and in an input-to-state estimate.

Finite-time stabilization of satellite quaternion attitude

In this paper, a finite-time control scheme is presented for stabilization of the satellite chaotic attitude around its equilibrium point when its attitude is confused by a disturbed torque. Controllers and settling time of stabilizaton are obtained, based on the Lyapunov stability theorem and finite-time control scheme. This method is satisfied for any initial condition. Numerical simulations ...

On finite gain Lp stability of nonlinear sampled-data systems

It is shown that uniform global exponential stability of the input-free discrete-time model of a globally Lipschitz sampled-data time-varying nonlinear system with inputs implies finite gain Lp stability of the sampled-data system for all p ∈ [1,∞]. This result generalizes results on Lp stability of sampled-data linear systems and it is an important tool for analysis of robustness of sampled-da...
